In London. A contemporary source observes that Scots go generally to the British (Macky, A Journal through England, [London: 1714], p. 108). Citing its appearance in the Lyon in Mourning as evidence, Pittock suggests that this may have been one of a number of coffee-houses used by Jacobites, both to enjoy mixing with others of shared politics and to pass messages (Material Culture and Sedition, p. 101).
