Likely the Edward Mason who, in 1758, succeeded Sir Everard Fawkener as secretary to Prince William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland. Prior to this he was deputy secretary and librarian (Roberts, The Gardens and Parks of Windsor, p. 36), but it isn't clear what his role was during the '45.
