Younger to William (or Aeneas, according to Muster Roll, p. 173) McBean of Kinchyle and Jean Mackintosh (of Kellachie). According to Charles Fraser-Mackintosh, "[m]any authentic anecdotes of his prowess at Culloden are preserved" (Clan Chattan: Its Kith and Kin, p. 34-35).
