Hugh MacDonald

Half-brother to the Laird of Morar. Hugh MacDonald was "educated for the Church in France." He evaded capture and returned to France after the Rising, but came back to Scotland in 1749. Regarded as "the Pretender's principal agent" (SP 54/44/58A), in 1755 he was apprehended and sentenced to banishment, although the banishment "was never enforced" (MacDonald and MacDonald, The Clan Donald, vol. 3, p. 255).
