I.
Here continueth to stink
The Memory of the —[Duke] of —[Cumberland]
Who with unparallel’dunparalleled Barbarity
And inflexible Hardness of Heart
In spite of all Motives to Lenity
That Policy or Humanity cou’dcould suggest
Endeavour’dEndeavoured to ruin S—[cotlan]d
By all the Ways a T—[yran]t cou’dcould invent
2
Nor is he more infamous
For all the monstrous Inhumanity of his Nature
Than fortunate in accumulating
Titles &and Wealth.
For
Without Merit
Without Experience
Without military Skill
He is created a Field-M—[arsha]l &and CaptCaptain General
Has the Profits of two Regiments
And a settled Revenue of 40000 a Year
3
He is the only Man of his Time
Who has acquir’dacquired yethe Name of a HeroeHero
By the Actions of a butchering Provo’tProvost1
For having with 10000 regular Troops
Defeated half that Number of fatigu’dfatigued Militia
He murder’dmurdered the wounded
Hang’dHanged or starv’dstarved the Prisoners
Ravag’dRavaged the Country wtwith fire &and Sword
And

(1280)
And having rioted in Cruelty posted off at last in tri-^umph
With the suppos’dsupposed Head

O loyal Reader
Let not his Success tempt thee to despair
Heaven that punisheth us for our Sins
Cannot overlook such Crimes as these
Having once fill’dfilled up yethe measure of his Iniquity
2
His Glory will vanish like yethe morning dew
And they who now adore him as a Hero &and a God
Will at last curse him
As a Mad-man and a Devil
