From John Farquharson of Ald-
lerg,
Dunkerque, May 20. 1767.
The
Chevalier de St George, or as his followers here call him King, is
very well, but in a very private way
attat Rome, &and has created John Hay of 1901 (1901)
Lesterick Knight. This I had from
one who corresponds with them. The
Gentleman is positive, that he is the
peculiar Care of Heaven as pass-
ing through so many Dangers, and
that he is designed for some great
End, takes all his misfortunes (if
you believe those about him) like
the true Christian Hero. His An-
swer to the Pope, when he sent
him word, that he woudwould not allow
him to take on any titles there, was
somewhat good. He told the Nuncio,
that the loss of CulodenCulloden gave him
more reallreal Concern, then any loss he
coudcould suffer by any orders from his
hollinessholiness, &and that whatever titles
he woudwould take, neither Pope, nor
Conclave coudcould nor had any right
to take from him. This I had from
a Gentleman was present.
