L.Lady G.Gask
Tho’Though I have little to say, I write ysthis to an-
swer your demand. SrSir John came &and dined here in his way fmfrom
Machany to Duplin. He told Mr O.Oliphant that his Friends had
obtained leave for his coming over without his asking
it, desired that he should go to EdrEdinburgh, &and present himself
to the people there in power. Upon his arrival he
writwrote a Card, to know qnwhen it would be agreeable that
he should wait upon the Justice Clerk. Was answered,
that he would be glad to see him next day to Break-
fast, where he went &and found company with him. He was
politely received, &and nothing passed more, than if he
had never been out of the Country. At the other houses
just 1957 (1957)
just the same. He proposed going back to Paris ^about this time to dis-
pose of a lodging he had furnished, &andc. as he wanted to
fix one foot before lifting another, &and see if the Coun-
try &and his reception in it were to his mind. He pro-
posed seeing you. Spoke as became him of a certain
person, &and that he had lived regularly since the
affair that parted them.”
