Thursday, DecrDecember 1st, 1748, I was favour-
ed with a Visit of one Robert Stew-
art, who had been in the Prince’s Ar-
my in Station of a Captain under
the Command of Colonel John Roy
Stewart. As the said Robert Stewart
had been engaged in the Skirmish
at Keith, he gave me an exact
&and particular Account of it, &and at
the same time he repeated to me
an Epitaph upon Cumberland,
composed (as Stewart declared to
me) by a Highlander in Glenli-
vet. I begged, he would favour
me with a Narrative of the Skir-
mish, &and likewise with a Copy of
the Epitaph, in his own Hand-
writing, which he frankly com-
plied with, &and accordingly made
his Promise good on Saturday’s
Evening, DecrDecember 10th, when he
made me another Visit, &and deliver-
ed to me the Papers out of his
his own Hand, exact
ed with a Visit of one Robert Stew-
