count of the Skirmish at
			
Inverury.
Upon Freday the 20th of DecrDecember 1745
      	
The Laird of Macleod march’dmarched from
Old meldrum to Inverurie with 500
men, was joined nixt day by Culkern
wtwith 200 Minroos, who were quarter’dquartered
upon the farmers, neerestnearest to that
village They continowed there in
great Security untilluntil Munday a-
bout four in the afternoon that
theretheir CentrieSentry in the South end of
the Town was SurprizedSurprised wtwith the
white flag turning the Firpark of
Kethhall in forward march upon
the Village, upon wchwhich he fir’dfired his
picepiece to give the alarm, whereu-
pon as the townsmen say they turn’dturned
out in great ConffusionConfusion: (This Fir-
park was within half a mile of the village) 1411 (1411)

rity of theirs might proceed fmfrom
their friendsfriends at AbdnAberdeen making them
belivebelieve they had nothing to fear
fmfrom L:Lord Lewis as he was prepar-
ing to march South, but therintherein
were they deceived For upon
Saturday came two Companies
of L:Lord J:John DDrummond’s men from Minrose
wtwith Elsick’s men from the mearns,
So that he might have numbered
about 900 men part of wch
were left to keep guard at AbdnAberdeen,
and upon munday about ten did
he march by the bridge of Don
wtwith Stonnywood’s Reg:Regiment Minaltrie’s
Elsick’s men and a few Mr Crichton
had raised wtwith the 2 Companies
of DrumondsDrummond's Abichie marched his
men the Kintore road, and by that
means had Don to cross in Sight
of the EnimieEnemy as LLord Lewis had
Urie, about 60 of the Macleods
kept firing upon them crossing U-
rie wherbywhereby two men were wound-
ed, The MacloedsMacleods were drawendrawn up
upon the east side of the Town a-
gainst whom was sent ColColonel Culbert
and Stonnywood, Minaltrie and Blelack (1412)
Blelack entered the Town, Abichie
went up the west Side to scour
the yards fmfrom wchwhich they fired and
galled LLord LewisLewis's men in yrtheir com-
ing up from Urie to form agenstagainst
the EnimieEnemy. The Action lasted
but a few minutes after the men
were formed and the loss inconsi-
derable on both Sides night coming
on apace; they could not be sup-
posed they could See to levelllevel
their picespieces, Upon the MacleodsMacLeods'
Side was taken Gordon of Ardoch
and 60 private men, on both Sides
14 killed and 20 wounded.
