a Letter to Mr Patrick Bail-
lie Writer in EdrEdinburgh, an exact
Copy of which is as follows.
Dear Sir,
As you are backward in vi-
siting a Friend, who entertains a sin-
cere Regard for you, I find, I must give
you an Errand to come &and see me.
I am well informed, that one Mr James
Grant (Merchant in Inverness) is just now
in EdrEdinburgh , whom I am very desirous to see
in my House, as he is a Gentleman
(though I have not the Honour of his Acquaintance) 1465 (1465)
Acquaintance) to whose Character &and
tender-heartedness I am not a
Stranger; of which I can show him
a convincing proof, when I have the
Happiness of seeing him. Pray then
(Dear Sir) be so good as to present
my best Wishes to Mr Grant, &and endea-
vour to prevail upon him to com^e along
with you to-morrowtomorrow to dine with me.

I know your Zeal to serve a Friend
too well, to deem it needful to say
any more. — At any Rate let
me have the pleasure of seeing
you to-morrowtomorrow agtagainst One o’ Clock.
