Transcription
In Consequence of this seasonable Visit,
I wrote to B.Bishop G.Gordon on Saturday, AugtAugust 19. in-
forming
, that our Common Friend had vi-
sited
Cousin with Frequency &and Freedom,
at least 5 or 6 Times; &and that the two
Fellow-Travellers1 had dined with
him twice; that Cousin would gladly
converse with Mr Wagstaffe, but durst
not attempt it, so closely was he eyed,
&and all his Motions watched; &and that he
himself had not visited Alexander Mur-
ray
; as it might have been ill taken for
him to go from the House of the Bro-
ther
-Bankers
to visit any such per-
son
; but that had B.Bishop G.Gordon been at home,
he then could have visited Alexander
Murray
by his Direction, ‘&and under his Eye.
I likewise informed B.Bishop G.Gordon at the same
time, that, since seeing him, I had chang-
ed
my Mind, &and did ^not now regret the Dis-
mission
of Andrew Lumisden, as I had
been informed of his being much upon
the deistical Way of thinking; but whether
the Brother-in-Law had poisoned him, or
he the Brother-in-Law, I would not say.
