From the RevdReverend Mr Geo.George Cheyne.

“Stirling, March 28. 1774.
Now, to say one
Word about the Ash-Wednesday Paper, cu-
rious
&and bold it is beyond everything I have
seen: &and then to come thro’through the hands of bit-
terest
enemies to lawful Government, is 2014 (2014)
truly extraordinary. In short, it is written u-
pon
solid Principles of religion; &and every line
is fraught with truths, that may be felt, as
surely as Egyptian Darkness was of old: but
it is to be feared, however sensible the gene-
rality
may be of our miseries (plainly enough
the effects of divine vengeance on a guilty
land) yet those, who chiefly ought, will
not have such a right sense of them as
shall lead to repentance. What becomes
of it before the 500 Kings, I shall ex-
pect
to hear, when you do; or perhaps in
the public papers.”
