Transcription
Tuesday, SeptrSeptember 13. 1774.
Received
from London, under Frank,1 without any
Letter, two News-Papers, in which are
the following Paragraphs.
The St James’s Chronicle; Or,
British Evening-Post.
From Thursday, SeptrSeptember 1. to Saturday,
SeptrSeptember 3. 1774
.
Extract of a Letter from an English
Gentleman
on his Travels, dated July 21.

“It is not to be described the univer-
sal
Joy which prevailed through this
mouldering City
, when the News was
brought, that his Britannic Majesty
had tolerated &and countenanced the
Worship of the holy Roman Religion
in Canada. Prayers were immedi-
ately
offered in the Churches for
his Majesty, &and a universal Fast &and
Thanksgiving ordered through the
Papal Dominions.
The Chevalier seems to derive 2054 (2054) some Hopes from the Discontent qchwhich
this new Doctrine may create; nor will
he refuse to take the Oath of Allegi-
ance
&and Supremacy to gain a King-
dom
he so highly longs to govern.
It is said he has had pressing
Invitations to America, for which he
will ^not embark, unless assisted by the
Crowns of France &and Spain.”
