ther
in Leith. “Gask, JanryJanuary 9. 1775.

I
see you have been somewhat merry on yethe
King
’s Birth-Day; but you cannot ima-
gine
what merriment was here. The Ten-
ants
, to the Number of about 50. assem-
bled
in the Hall before Dinner, &and drew
Tickets for a Cow, which Mr Oliphant
gives them annually. Then they ad-
journed
to the Barn to dine, &and af-
terwards
returned to the Hall, &and be-
gan
their Dancing, which continued
till eleven at Night, without yethe least
Intermission, except about half an
Hour while the Fiddler was get-
ting
his Dinner; &and all the While
they got plenty of Ale &and Punch.”
