Edward Burk

d. 23 Nov 1751, Edinburgh

A chairman in Edinburgh who joined the Rising as servant to Alexander MacLeod, Younger of Muiravonside, later acting as a guide to Charles Edward Stuart. According to The Book of The Old Edinburgh Club, Burk's fortunes improved somewhat after the Rising, as he was able to become a "chairmaster," meaning that he owned at least one sedan chair (it should be noted that this source also contradicts Burk's own narrative in the Lyon in Mourning: Jamieson, "Sedan Chair in Edinburgh," vol. 9, p. 202).
