Thursday, OctrOctober 13th, 1748, I was fa-
voured with a Visit of Ranald Mac-
Donald, Son of Angus MacDonald

of Boradale.
The said Ranald MacDonald informed me,

that he himself was the first Man, that
went on Board the Frigate, in which the
Prince was, when he &and his few Atten-
dants came first upon the Coast of the
Continent of Scotland near Boradale.
The Prince then (the better to disguise
himself) was in the same Dress used by
the Students of the Scots College in Pa-
ris. As Ranald had travelled, &and had been,
about eight Years before this, both in Rome &and
Paris, so he knew Vizozi Michael (yethe Prince’s
Valet) immediately upon seeing him; but yethe
Gentlemen would not allow it to be said, ytthat
there was any such man as one of the name
on board wtwith ymthem, they giving themselves out
to be rich Smugglers come upon a JobbJob of
Trade. Mr Buchannan knew Ranald well,
having seen him in foreign Parts, &and in due
Time discovered himself to him. Ranald
stared much upon the Prince, seeing SomeygSomething
uncommon about him, but did not know him
though he had seen him frequently in Rome,
eight Years having made a great Alteration
in the Prince’s Looks &and Person. Ranald be-
gan to think, they were come upon some ex-
traordinary Business, &and SrSir ThosThomas Sheridan first
discovered the Matter to him. As yethe sdsaid Lieu-
tenant Ranald MacDonald had been much wtwith
yethe Prince in his Difficulties along wtwith Glenala-
dale, I asked him if he could give me yethe
Names of yethe famous Glenmoriston-men, Vol: 3.

but ytthat he would get ymthem fmfrom Glenaladale &and send them
to me.
